Climate change is increasing the occurrence and severity of natural disasters, requiring that cities prepare themselves for such events through a combination of infrastructure and spatial planning interventions. Unplanned settlements face the risk of fire, and certain geographic locations require infrastructure to protect themselves from erosion, flooding and other risks.
